So, You Wanna Get Into KPOP? Here’s A Good Start:

The ever-expanding global outreach of the Korean pop music industry is mind blowing to say the least, and sometimes, it can be a little overwhelming to try to get yourself into. So, we compiled our best suggestions and tips for getting into KPOP music.

1. Find a group. If you’re just now finding KPOP, chances are, you’ve already heard of groups like BTS or EXO. That’s a good place to start, but in case you’d like to get into a different group first, here’s a short list of other popular South Korean boy and girl groups.

BOYS: Monsta X, Wanna One, Super Junior, SHINee, BIGBANG, Astro, SF9, Pentagon, SEVENTEEN, Day6, NCT, GOT7, and others.

GIRLS: Twice, Girls Generation, EXID, Miss A, SISTAR, Brave Girls, Pristin, Wonder Girls, 2NE1, Red Velvet, Blackpink, WJSN, and others.

2. Now that you’ve found your group, here’s a suggestion on how to get into them. Listen to their music. It’s okay if you can’t get their names for a little while. It takes time. You’ll get there. For the sake of this article, we’re going to use SHINee as an example. Our suggestion is to take advantage of YouTube and official music videos. If you search ‘SHINee’ (or your chosen group name), the first videos that appear should have at least 1-3 music videos included.

We think they’re all worth watching, tbh

Listen to as many as you want, enjoy it. Google the translations of the lyrics into the language you understand best. Take your time.

3.) A good way to learn the personalities of the members is to look up cheesy things like “SHINee Funny Moments” or “Sh*t SHINee Says” or “SHINee Crack” on YouTube.

Even if you don’t know the members names at this point, you can pretty much figure out their behaviors and personalities after a few of these videos.

4.) Now, it’s time to learn their names. This takes time and work, but it winds up being totally worth it. A quick google search can list them out for you.

Now, you have options. You can either, google their individual names, or search YouTube for their names, and usually that can help you differentiate between them and learn their individual names.

BONUS: A search on YouTube for things like “Guide to SHINee” can help you learn random facts about each member.
